Are You Experienced includes essential Hendrix records like “Foxy Lady,” the legendary “Purple Haze,” “Hey Joe,” and “The Wind Cries Mary,” which are all included on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Within a month of the group forming, they entered the studio in October 1966 to record their first song together, which was “Hey Joe.” The album was recorded over a five-month period in London as they took breaks from their tour. The US version featured a new iconic psychedelic cover shot with a fisheye lens by Karl Ferris, who also shot the cover of The Hollies' 1967 album Evolution that inspired the new cover for Are You Experienced. The US version of the album was released on Augafter it was released in the UK on May 12th. The album is considered one or rock music’s most essential debuts.
